Beginner Sewing Course: Learn the Basics & Create a Ruffle Tote Bag
Ready to learn how to sew? This 6-week beginner-friendly course is designed to teach the fundamentals of sewing while guiding you through the creation of your very own ruffle tote bag. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine or need a refresher, this class will build your confidence one step at a time.
Course Fee: $200
Start Date: September 29th 2026 (the first round of classes will begin this week, meaning the Tuesday class will begin on the 29th, Thursday class on October 1st and the Sunday class on October 4th)
Duration: 6 Weeks
Class Length: 1.5 Hours Per Week
Choose One Weekly Class Time:
⏰ Tuesdays: 11:00 PM – 12:30 PM
⏰ Thursdays: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
⏰ Sundays: 11am- 12:30 PM
Where?
📍 Maarte in Downtown Fresno
Students only need to attend one class per week. Both time slots cover the same lesson.
While the itinerary guide will be the same- project will be different but with same beginner level theme.
What You’ll Learn
Week 1 – Getting Started
Machine basics, threading, winding a bobbin, needle safety, stitch length, and straight-line sewing practice.
Week 2 – Fabric & Cutting
Fabric types, measuring, cutting techniques, pinning, clipping, and pressing fundamentals.
Week 3 – Seams & Structure
Backstitching, seam allowances, topstitching, basic hems, and garment construction concepts.
Week 4 – Making Ruffles
Learn how to gather fabric and create beautiful ruffles while beginning work on your tote bag pieces.
Week 5 – Straps & Details
Construct tote bag straps, review project assembly, and receive step-by-step guidance on finishing techniques.
Week 6 – Final Assembly
Complete your tote bag, review skills learned throughout the course, and celebrate your finished project!
